Bhai Asa Singh Girls College

Bhai Asa Singh Girls College, an oasis of education in the arid region of Malwa, is situated on the South-Western side of Goniana Mandi, District Bathinda, Punjab. This college is run by ‘Bhai Jagta Ji Educational Society, Goniana Mandi’, which is registered under the society Registration Act 1860 and amended by Punjab Amendment Act 1957.

The college, founded by revered Mahant Bhai Asa Singh Ji 'Sevapanthi' in 1973, has played a very significant role in spreading the light of education in a rural area, where girls were not allowed to step out of homes, until a few years ago. The contribution of the college in the emancipation as well as the empowerment of women has been marvelous. The college has been making steady progress since its inception.

The college boasts a beautiful building, a marvel of architecture. The college is spread on over six acres of land and has a four storey 21,500 sq feet building, having 15 classrooms, an Auditorium, a Canteen, a Common Room, a Computer Lab and a Library consisting of 12313 Books.

The college was affiliated with Punjabi University, Patiala, in 1975. The unit grant commission also gave recognition to the college under section 2f and 12b of UGC act 1956. The National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) accredited the college with a B+ (78.85%) in 2003 which put it on a higher level than many other colleges in this area.

This college offers B.A. courses of 3 yrs duration, as well B. C. A. and P.G.D.C.A. courses in Computer Applications. There is a Computer Lab catering to the needs of the P. G. D. C. A. students Computers and accessories are maintained by using fully air-conditioned rooms as well as a separate cabin for storing of magazines and floppies.

The College has now applied to the Board of Education for two new degree courses; one is for a business degree, i.e. B. Com, and the other is for a degree in Music.

Various welfare programs are available, C.P.F for the staff & scholarships, fee concession & SAF for the needy & deserving students. Remedial classes for weak students and SC/BC students are held by the teaching staff in addition to the guidance and special attention provided to the advanced learners. The college provides 80 percent of the young women with Tuition Scholarship.

The institution also has a robust sports program and the Annual Sports Meet is very exciting.

There also is a Grievance Redressal Cell with an application box. There is a fair and expeditious grievance redressal mechanism at all levels of functioning of the institution. Grievances are redressed in a coordinated manner

Various loans are made available to members of the teaching and the non-teaching staff of the college, as well.

Bus transportation is also provided to the students by the college management.
