Gurmat Vidyalaya
A Gurmat Vidyalaya has been functioning at Tikana Bhai Jagta Ji for almost 30 years. Now, a new effort to enroll poor children from villages, and provide them with education about Sikh scriptures, gurmat sangeet and kirtan along with a regular school curriculum, including English language, is underway.
This effort is especially important for the Sikh faith, as well as for the careers of the students, who will be provided a first class education, along with their religious studies, to enable them to communicate with the Sikh population that is being educated at a rapid rate. As this is the Internet age, young minds are being exposed to all sorts of information, including immoral behavior, and due of lack of adequate spiritual guidance and knowledge of Sikh Scriptures, they are unable to cope with today’s fast changing unethical environment and materialism, and are being distracted away from their true purpose in life.
These children will become true humanitarians, will have successful careers, so they are not dependent on an income from their local gurdwaras only, often run by un-informed committee members, who often force these young missionaries to bend to their old ways and distort the message of the Gurus to suit their own personal agendas.
These Sikh missionaries will convey Guru Nanak Dev Ji’s teachings to Sikhs worldwide, without any kind of fear or hindrance.
Land for this endeavor has been acquired and a three story building is being constructed now, which will also have room and board for the enrolled students.
As of today, the first story is complete and regular Gurmat Sangeet and Gurbani classes are being held. To further encourage students, Gurbani competitions are also held, within the Vidyalaya curriculum as well at Yag Samagams. Children are separated into different age groups for the competition and prizes are distributed. An open invitation is sent to the community for the price distribution ceremony and refreshments are served.
Proficient students are then sent to state-wide competitions and many of the students have won great prizes and laurels for the community and their school.
We need devout Sikh missionaries to be sent all over the world, to become great role models for the Sikh communities all over India, the United States, the United Kingdom, Australia and other countries.
We encourage the Saadh Sangat to donate generously to this cause, as there are 2 more stories left to be constructed for additional classrooms and residence halls.
